First Australia-Wide Women's Ministry Conference

Posted on 02 Sep 2016

Lyn Sayhoun from Mudgee and myself drove down to Melbourne on Thursday August 25 to the first ever Australia-wide Women’s Ministries conference.

It was held at the Bay View Eden Hotel in the heart of the city and where most ladies had their accommodation. We were well taken care of with vegetarian meals at lunch and dinner covered in the cost of the registration. We paid extra for the hearty breakfasts.

Altogether there were 420 ladies from all over Australia - from West Australia, North Queensland, Tasmania and all other states.  Most flew to the conference.

Our main speaker was the World Director of Adventist Women based at the General Conference, Raquel Arrais, who comes from Brazil and spoke on the first evening - Thursday night. Our SPD Women’s ministries director Erna Johnson was also present.

We were all able to attend 5 worshops over Friday and Sabbath:

1. Litiana Turner (Discipleship Ministries – Children SPD) spoke on “Reach a child – Reach the World”
2. Carla Baker (Women’s Ministries Director - North American Division) spoke on "Discipling New Members"
3. Roberta Fish (Social Worker - Chattanooga, Tennessee) spoke on "Ministering Hope"
4. Trafford Fischer (Discipleship Ministries – Family SPD) spoke on "Men’s Relationships"
5. Brendan Pratt (Ministerial Secretary - AUC) spoke on "Our Consuming Life"

It was all much appreciated by all and many hearts were touched by the meetings and the main theme: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” Galatians 5:1.
